Kremlin: Putin, Tsipras discuss pipeline across Greece, Turkey

MOSCOW, Jun 5 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras have discussed by phone the construction of the Turkish Stream pipeline across Greece and Turkey, the Kremlin said in a report Friday.

“The officials have discussed practical steps to fulfill the agreements reached during a recent working visit of Alexis Tsipras to Russia, in particular, the planned construction of gas transport infrastructure across the territories of Turkey and Greece,” according to the statement.

Tsipras will arrive to St. Petersburg for the international economic forum on June 18-20, the Kremlin said.

In December 2014, Russia decided to construct the Turkish Stream, a pipeline that will run under the Black Sea to the Turkey–Greece border to replace the cancelled South Stream pipeline, which was supposed to carry Russian gas to Europe bypassing Ukraine. Greece, Serbia, Macedonia and Hungary expressed interest in pipeline extension to the E.U.
